How to get to Győr

Győr is situated in the middle of what is called the Golden Triangle, that is to say it lies midway between Vienna and Budapest (120 km) and 70 km from Bratislava. This means that you can fly in to any one of these three cities. Győr has very good public transport links with Vienna and Budapest and from Bratislava there are local trains or you can rent a car.

 

To Budapest by plane

From Liszt Ferenc International Airport, go to Keleti Pályaudvar (Eastern Station) by taxi, by airport shuttle or by public transport.

Taxi or airport shuttle

It is easy to find a taxi at the airport entrance. A taxi will take you to Keleti Pályaudvar (Eastern Station) for around 4000-5000 Hungarian forints (15-20 euros). The airport also provides an airport shuttle service which takes you from the airport to the centre of Budapest. For more information see, www.minibud.hu.

Public transport

Bus number 200E leaves Terminal 2 every 8 minutes from 3.30 a.m. to 23.00 p.m. and runs to the Kőbánya-Kispest metro station (metro line M3). From Kőbánya-Kispest station, take the M3 metro towards Újpest Központ and get off at the 8th station, Kalvin ter. From Kalvin ter, take the M4 metro to Keleti Pályaudvar (Eastern Station).  From Keleti Pályaudvar, there are fast and comfortable trains to Győr every hour (the Railjet, InterCity trains). To Vienna by plane

Vienna airport to Győr by bus

Take the Vienna-Budapest bus which also stops at Győr. The bus leaves from airport bus terminal, bus stop 3. For bus times see www.flixbus.com. To reserve seats, select the destination for Győr or Budapest.

Vienna to Győr by train (from Vienna Airport)

Take the train to Wien Hauptbanhof  railway station (a modern, recently renovated  railway station) or Wien Meindling railway station.

Trains to Budapest stop at Győr. The Railjet and Eurocity trains are comfortable.

If you want to go to Wienna City Center, there is a direct train from the airport to the city centre (CAT, City Airport Train) which takes you to Vienna Mitte railway station. For further information see,  https://tickets.oebb.at/en/ticket.

 

To Bratislava by plane

From Bratislava airport (Letisko M. R. Štefánik airport), take bus number 61 to Bratislava’s main railway station (Hlavná stanica). The bus runs from 4.45 a.m. to 11.25.p.m. and runs every 20 minutes  For bus times see, http://imhd.sk/ba/schedule-timetable/linka/61/smer/-/zastavka/-/193562.

Arriving in Győr

Győr station is about a 20-minute walk or 5-minute taxi ride  from the University campus conference site or the recommended hotels. Taxis cost around  1000-1500 forints (4 - 5 euros).

 

To get to the university, you can also take the Citybus, which stops on the Town Hall side of the railway station. The Citybus is free and runs every 15 minutes from 6.30 am to 17.00 p.m. (every 30 minutes on Saturdays).
